In hindsight, this was a tragedy that could have been avoided. As soon as the flight crew realized there was a mechanical problem with the horizontal stabilizer, they should have immediately declared an emergency and landed. At that point, they still had adequate control of the aircraft to land successfully. Instead, they performed troubleshooting procedures causing catastrophic failure of the horizontal stabilizer resulting in an uncontrollable aircraft.

I’ll never get on a plane if I don’t need to. They say that planes are more safer than cars, but most of the times I hear about plane crashes, either most people die or everyone dies.

If the pilot added thrust to the right engine 5 seconds sooner, they could have landed level. He didn’t account for the input action delay.

Everything about this crash could have easily been avoided. The biggest part being that they should not have been doing this kind of work. Flying people, food, or supply sure, the armored vehicles what were they thinking. The load crew had no idea what they were doing because the civilian company had no idea how to do this kind of work. Leave military work to train military personnel, stop letting the some congressmen on some subcommittee take "shortcuts" and higher civilian contractors that cost five more to the tax payers but they go with it anyways because their buddy owns the company or something like that.

They should have been able to make it to Halifax Intl if they didn't request time to dump fuel, and also requesting time to do teh required checklist. Those valuable minutes could have been used to get on the ground since HFX Intl was just 10 miles away. Even if they couldn't make it to HFX they could have done an emergency landing in Shearwater (military airport). I know that procedure is procedure but valuable time was lost due to procedure. Since I know about Shearwater that would have been my first go to, and taken that chance regardless of the consequences. Shearwater would have been about 6 miles from their position since they were already descending but again, if you're not familiar with the area, and it was at night it may have been a fatal choice now that I think about it, but it was still a valid choice. I'm not blaming anyone here, it just saddens me so much that this happened when I think maybe there could have been a chance. I lived in Nova Scotia the last 58 years, and know it well, and I was at work at the time of the air crash. I know hindsight is 20/20. I always wondered why they didn't let the ATC how much more serious it was onboard. This is such a sad thing to happen.

113 people died and the Concorde’s reign as a supersonic airliner was ended. And the courts agreed that $1.3 million was acceptable in terms of cost of damages lol. Then they had to turn around and pay out a $150mil settlement for the victim’s families, which is still far from acceptable. This was just a cluster fuck of random circumstances (except for the whole “just add that extra few TONS of shit, it’ll definitely be ok!” from Mister “what could go wrong?” Idiot pilot) that led to mass tragedy.

If the stabilizer was stuck in position that nose the plane down, wouldn't flying it inverted at least keep them airborn and the plane wanting to go nose up???

I didn’t realise that ATC even receives MCP info from the transponder. ie even if the pilot has changed the altitude before the altitude even begins to change. Fantastic technology. Shame they can’t stop it remotely but that then brings its own set of challenges such as external interference.
